"Some prefer the strangers, that scamper out of doors; others the nosey neighbours, in market towns and halls. But I prefer the quiet life of tree, ditch, field and air; a cosy home, a hobbit hole, a book, some tea and care."

It is true to say that villages tend to be overlooked in the grand scheme of things. If you are outside of the UK, it is likely that you may only ever have heard of London or other major cities. Even within the UK, towns are more heard of than the nestled and quaint villages across this glorious land.

Yet, is it not the villages that have been the backdrop for many a murder mystery, St Mary Mead for Miss Marple, or those from Midsomer Murders? For a quaint love story, a lovely cottage in the film The Holiday, partly filmed in the village Shere, Surrey.

So, why not compose an ode to this village, to its church and mill, to its fields, footpaths, beautiful cottages and wide open spaces? It's likely not a place that you'll see in films, it's not interesting enough—but it is, it exists and it is lovely, and it deserves its place here.
